Partnerships will better prepare the next generation of professionals and community leaders through training
GUYMON, Okla. – With students out for the summer, teachers and school counselors headed back to the classroom on June 2 to discuss learning and partnership opportunities at Seaboard Foods Educational Learning Experience. The company hosted the day-long conference providing educators information about animal agriculture and the pork industry, job skills students need to work and how Seaboard Foods can serve as a community resource for students, teachers and school districts.
The conference, started in 2016, welcomed 13 school counselors, administrators, teachers and other educators from Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas who toured Seaboard Foods’ pig farms, feed mills, processing plant and transportation facility. Seaboard Foods leaders provided educators with real-world business and industry insights to create curriculum that will prepare students to achieve their goals and build tomorrow’s community leaders.
Seaboard Foods leadership and the educators discussed how members of the Seaboard Foods team can provide students with job interviewing tips, resume building workshops, career exploration fair information and scholarship opportunities. Also, information was shared on how Seaboard Foods’ internships, management trainee positions, and part-time or summer jobs for teens can help students gain hands-on job experience and career exploration.
Seaboard Foods donated to each teacher a $100 gift card for students’ school supplies.
“Seaboard Foods is committed to improving our community by partnering with the school systems in the communities where we work. Our educator learning experience provides an opportunity for us to have open discussion with educators on how we can support the education system, as well as, provide them an in-depth glimpse into the vast array of opportunities for their students. Helping teachers inspire students interested in careers in animal agriculture is our duty in helping create the next generation of professionals,” said Alaina Sill, talent acquisition and recruiting manager at Seaboard Foods.
The conference is part of Seaboard Foods’ commitment to support local education to build a strong community for future generations by investing time and resources to support learning at every level.
